Daffodil Day!

The 22nd of August is a very important day here in Australia. It's Daffodil Day!

Daffodil Day is an Australian Cancer Council event that raises funds for a very worthy cause. They are out to beat cancer and in my books, anyone with that sort of mission is well worth supporting!

There are stockists all over Australia selling pins. I thought it would be fun to make some paper daffodils to match! Please check out their website for more information: http://daffodilday.com.au/

I've made a little video with instructions for constructing your own, realistic, daffodils out of paper.

Here's the link: http://youtu.be/t5n_YqRqKo8 *The flower crown (like the one shown on the Facebook page) instructions have been filmed and are coming soon, I just have to edit and upload it.

As promised in the video, here is the complete materials list. When you make them, please share photos on the Origami Twist Facebook page so that we can admire your hard work! (http://www.facebook.com/origamiwithatwist)

- 3 circles of colored printer paper, around 2.5-3 inches or 6-7.5 cm. The diameter isn't too important, as long as all 3 circles are the same size.

*Note when choosing colors - 2 circles will be the background petals of your flower and 1 circle will be used to create a template. I used yellow for the petals in the video.

-    I used two dies from Kaszazz with my Sizzix Big Shot to make my circles, but you could just as easily trace around the lid of a jar or an aerosol hairspray can for the larger circle and a spice jar or a tea light for the smaller circle and then cut them out with scissors.

- 1 circle of colored printer paper, very roughly 1/2 the diameter of the bigger circles (i.e. If your background circles are 3 inches, then the center circle would be 1.5 inches in diameter).

*Note - This circle will be the center of the daffodil. I chose yellow for the petals, though you could definitely make this a different color to change the look of the flower.

- scissors

- a pencil

- adhesive of choice (I use glossy accents, but any liquid glue will work for this, including white school glue)

- a sharpie or other marker with a rounded end (it is the marker itself that will be used in this case, not the ink, so the shape is more important than the brand)

- a piece of fun foam, a new flip flop or thong, or a mousepad

If you are making the crown (video instructions coming soon) you will also need:

- floral wire or pipe cleaners, cut to fit the head of the person who will be wearing it

- floral or washi tape

- green paper cut into the shape of long thin leaves (a little bit longer than the diameter of you bigger circle), 2 leaves per flower

- enough finished daffodils to fill the crown

Historically accurate and Internet diaries.

Hello! I haven't felt inspired recently and as a result the idea of writing a blog hit the back burner. And stayed there. With the heat off.

I have been working on a lot of new projects recently, most YouTube related, all arts and crafts related.

I need a place to keep track of my thoughts, ideas and progress. With that, the blog is off the back burner and will now become a regularly featured outlet for my creative process. Today's topic?

 Teaching Origami.

I am currently in the middle of filming an Intro to Origami course for curious.com/origamitwist. Curious is a relatively new video platform devoted to inexpensive educational lessons of the short and sweet variety.

I have been struggling with the research process for the course because I want everything to be as relevant and accurate as possible. It has been a nightmare trying to be historically accurate!

Who would have thought that there were so many differing ideas as to the origin of paper folding! I have persevered and as a result, I am currently in the editing process for the first of the eleven videos that will make up the course.

With that, here's a sneak peek in photo form of what you can expect to see when it is finished. I will be teaching 4 bases, 5 models and everything you need to know about the symbols and folds necessary to make a model using a simple to low intermediate origami diagram. It will be a great place to start for the beginner origami enthusiast and I hope you love it!

*Note to self: remember to put a link to the completed course here when it goes live!!!!*

Update - Here's the link (it opens in a new tab)! https://curious.com/origamitwist/series/how-to-make-origami-art

Adorable Punch Art Strawberry!

Isn't it adorable? I love strawberries, I love punch art and I love that punch art and strawberries can combine to make the most adorable card or scrapbooking embellishment ever!

The blog where I originally found this idea said that she had found it for sale at a scrapbooking shop and she thought, "I could make that!". I'm so glad she did and I'm so glad she put it on the internet, because it is a great idea!

I sat down to make one and realized that I would need to modify her original design in order for it to work with my resources so I decided to make a YouTube tutorial showing you how I modified it. I link to her original blog post in the description of the video so that you can check out her instructions and see which one would work best for the materials that you have available.

I hope you enjoy the tutorial and have lots of fun making your own strawberries!

Please Subscribe to my YouTube channel, I post lots of tutorials and other papercrafting related videos! (Link opens in a new window)

Teabag Folding - Origami Twist

Welcome to Origami Twist!

You may have seen Origami Twist on YouTube or Pinterest. You may also be wondering what it's all about?

I adore simple, elegant, straightforward papercrafting. Basically, I love things that look a lot more complicated to make than they actually are. Don't worry, even if it is a bit complicated, I will do everything I can to simplify the process.

Video tutorials are my favorite means of teaching, short of being in the same room and I share bunches of them at www.youtube.com/origamitwist. Please stop by, check out a few videos and Subscribe! It would mean the world to me...and it means that you can stay updated as new videos are published!

Crafters and non-crafters alike, this is the place for you! (that is if you are interested in creating something that will wow your children, impress your neighbors, intrigue your co-workers and delight your nieces and nephews). Let's get crafting! Here's to discovering joy!

xoxo,

Jenn

PS - I also have a little online shop that sells printable papers. Basically, they are digital files in PDF format that you can print out on your home printer and use with many of the tutorials that I publish on YouTube.
